textures & tones

Making a statement is the motto for the year. Not just for my personal style but in every facet of my life. Who better to show out and show up for yourself, then you? Putting this look together was so fun! The highlight, of course, is the origami denim from a brand called Lot Number. I’ve never seen denim like this before, so they were a perfect addition to my wardrobe. To keep the theme of texture going, I paired it with this top from Zara, which I got back in 2019 right before the resurgence of the popcorn top aesthetic. Fun fact, I honestly predicted the resurgence of popcorn/texture tops back in 2016! My sister can back me up lol. Either way, I love that this vibe is back. It really adds character to a look instead of just a standard plain top. Giving a bit of pizazz without doing too much, you know? To finish off the look, I added my Fenty creepers and green tote to bring the whole look together. What do you all think of this look?

preppy

I am really being intentional with my style and focusing on quality items that bring me joy. This look came about after I thrifted this green striped American Eagle top, which instantly made me think of Ye’s preppy hip hop looks of the early 2000s, the popped collar is essential. Now Ye would’ve had the Ralph Lauren top, but I think the AE top got the job done. Everything really came together from the statement accessories, which I’m stocking up on this year for sure. Popping accessories just take a look up a notch! Shout-out to these Black woman-owned brands: Lorvae (sunglasses) & Nayr Studio (heart bag) - be sure to check them out! What are your thoughts on this look? Or were you never into the preppy look?

fun fashion

I truly create my outfits based off my mood or vibe and honestly, I really appreciate different style aesthetics. Not saying I would wear them all, but I can pull off quite a few! Individuality is key. For me, my personal style is all about having fun and feeling confident. With my numerous style layers I am just trying to explore, which I feel in turn helps me better understand myself. The base of this look was this Frame denim jumpsuit but I jazzed it up with this fur hat via Etsy (designer IG @jacketsbynatasha), gold jewelry and my favorite suede clogs from XOCOI via Farfetch (favorite purchase of 2022, seriously). I love a deep purple and I just don’t see it enough on clothes or shoes, so I’m on the hunt for more! Accessories are key to bring an outfit to life and I love when they add texture as well, giving depth to a look. Are accessories necessary for your outfits? How do you have fun with your style?

gone with the wind

It’s been a minute! I’ve been loving the current “social message” to just “post the content, sis!” If you show up the best way you know how, then who is to say that that isn’t good enough? Do you sis and in the words of Kenya Moore be, “Gone with the wind, fabulous!”

wild side

My girl Normani said “I’m ready to pull up on you, I’m ready to do what I do. Baby, what you wanna do?” Although her context was a little different than mine (lol) the line is thorough for my motto this year! It’s a call out to myself to step out more on faith in what I want in this life and also to start living on the wild side of my style with body confidence. To be honest, I have not been motivated to get dressed during this loooong pandemic but no more. I am ready to explore all things that exist on the other side of restraint in all facets of my life. How do you speak to your inner wild side through style? xoxo
